We have been forced to accept a broken foundation of scattered, siloed accounts, leading us into a state of Identity Chaos.
This is more than an inconvenience. Identity Chaos is the most critical problem of the modern world.
It's a quiet crisis that erodes our digital rights, stifles innovation, and puts our global society at risk. It is a tax on our time, our privacy, and our peace of mind.
Identity Chaos manifests itself in many ways:
It fuels a $10.5 trillion annual cybercrime industry
It powers a $489 billion data-brokering market
It wastes billions of hours of human productivity
It threatens democracies with misinformation and censorship
Most urgently, it empowers AI systems to seize control through our fragmented data, posing an irreversible threat to human autonomy.
Fragmented solutions have failed us. Governments can't fix a broken Internet architecture. Privacy policies have become hollow promises. Internet complexity has been shifted, not solved.
A problem this fundamental requires a foundational solution.
We, the undersigned, recognize Identity Chaos as a foundational threat to human agency and declare our support for its resolution.
We support the development of open-source, decentralized, and user-centric technologies that give individuals and organizations true ownership and control of their digital selves. To end Identity Chaos, we must organize.
Solving this problem will require a coordinated global effort and a significant investment of capital and talent. We commit to raising awareness of Identity Chaos and supporting the communities and projects dedicated to building a more equitable and secure digital future for all.
